Wow, so it's been a while since I posted. Figured I'd wrap up a bit.
The young is doing really well in school. A few bumps in behaviors, but scholastically, exceptionally well. She has been moved into 1st grade for reading, since she is far beyond the skill level that they expect out of a graduating Kindergartener. After reading, she comes back to her KG class for the rest of the day.
Tom is doing well work-wise, even if he is working like 65+ hours a week, and a good chunk of them between the hours of midnight and 6am, randomly while he is sleeping. His being on-call all the time has really screwed with everything else, not least of which is his sleep. But it also gets annoying that we hardly ever do anything on the weekends because he is on call and might get a priority call that he has to work.
I am the same. Calling for jobs, sending out my resume to anyone who has an opening. In the past few weeks, I have gotten one call back, and it pissed me right the fuck off. I got the call on Thursday, early afternoon, regarding a processing position in a Broker's office. I was on the phone with him for roughly 20 minutes while we exchanged essential information, such as my #1 point that I desparately tried to get across : I have never worked in a broker's office. I told him about my experience thus far, I am a fast learner, have exceptional attention to detail, etc, but I made it clear that I have never worked with broker software. He said to come in for an interview the next day (Friday) at 11am. I was jazzed that it appeared he was willing to train the right person, and set about getting ready, making sure my 'interview outfit' was clean and all that.
Next morning, I arrive for my interview, an hour away mind you, 15 minutes early. I inform the receptionist who I was there for (she was a 'floor' receptionist, not actually for the company I was there for), and took a seat. She told me about 5 minutes later that my interviewer was out sick and there was no one in the office, but that someone else was being called in to interview me and should be there within 15 minutes or so. At about 11:30, I started getting a bit upset, and wondering about the ettiquite of leaving, how long should one wait for their interview? At 11:40, a man breezed in, arms full of mail, briefcase and other various papers, I was pointed out by the receptionist, and he asked if I was Laura Martin. I said, that I was Lisa Smith and he said, "Yeah, yeah, right, right, come on back."
This was my interviewer that I had spoken to yesterday, he wasn't out sick, he had been in New Tampa working and he had tried to pawn off my interview on the other employee (there are only 2 in this office apparently) who couldn't be there. I got this while walking to his office. Once inside, he asked for my resume, which I gave him. He tossed it onto the table behind him, started going thru his mail and then said, "I really don't think this is going to work out with you." He then complained about having to drive from NT all the way down to interview me, and that he wouldn't have asked me in if he had known that I had no broker experience, that he was looking for someone he could hire and have start on Monday with no training. I lost a bit of my politeness and pointed out that in fact I had tried to express that to him over the phone. His response to that was, "Yeah, well. I'm sorry I wasted your time, but I'll hold your resume and pass it on if I hear that anyone needs your kind of experience." It took all of 1.5 minutes from the time we got to his 'office', which was about the size of my kitchen, to give an idea of how small it was. To say the least, I was really freaking pissed off.
Other than that, I am taking a cake decorating class, and really loving it a lot. :)
Anyway, here you go, an update. Enjoy :P |
