little things [Jul. 23rd, 2008|01:58 pm]

gishgish
[where |tampa for now]
[mood | calm]
[music |Deftones- If Only Tonight We Could Sleep (Cure cover)]

So with all the craziness that keeps coming my way, there are little moments that things said that can make my whole day...

Darcy was looking at my Smashing Pumpkins poster, pointed at Billy Corgan and said "that's my daddy".... I damn near died laughing at the situation...

The other day D called me at 8 in the morning. He just called to say that on his way to work every morning he passes a girl on a bike who says hi to him, and he thinks her voice sounds like mine, like everyday he's thinking of me. Aw.

And I get a text message from my boyfriend... "You're Kat I'll punch you in the fucking face Lynes. You are not supposed to get defeated". He's been such a big support through everything that's going on. It's new though, to be with someone who actually is helping me through it, instead of judging me and telling me what to do. He's being so awesome and understanding, and hasn't once told me to quit my bitching ;)He also made a dvd of all the footage we shot while in Savannah and through-out Georgia and sent it to me, it was bad ass! I love him. Yes, I said it.

I'm starting to get things in order again. I have a feeling another move is in the near future, but I'm incredibly calm about it, it feels like it's the right thing to do and not so much a thing I HAVE to do. I'm still duking it out with the military people about child support and Darcy's insurance. Waiting for VPK paperwork, all that jazz. As usual, things got, and still kind of are crazy and hectic for a bit but they are now settling and I feel that this is the way things are meant to work out. Funny, I'm not a religious person by any means, but recently I have had my belief in Fate come back to be...

Today we are working on a quiz called Snape’s child. This is going to be more difficult my friends, specifically we are looking for HG/SS stories where Snape has a child but Hermione is not the mother. Snape could obtain his child through adoption, an affair, a Death Eater revel, or whatever. A prime example is [info]odogoddess’ summer 2007 exchange story Reckoning.

Do you have any Suggestions? Think hard.

I have a friend who wants to sign up for livejournal, and asked me about ways to use it.  Things like backgrounds and such.  I know nothing about LJ except how to post.  I still muck up the LJ cuts and it takes me a few tries sometimes to get them right.  I was wondering if some of my more savvy friends wouldn't mind sharing the basics here, simply, and helping my friend get a basic understanding.  Thanks.

Baby Cake

Wow... that is really good art, but totally tasteless [in the fact that it has to be cut up and eaten]--- my horrible thought? "I hope it's full of strawberry filling!"

-dies-

Disclaimer: [info]siriuslysnogged does not support the harm of babies, and cannot even read fiction or watch movies portraying such. It's one of my panic buttons...

Speaking of panic buttons and wangst. )

--

I actually got on the computer because I thought "Well I feel like shit emotionally, and my beta sent me back chapter 3 to my mystery WIP and told me I needed to work on this really angsty scene because it's too flat" -- but now I feel better. And so I'm not sure I'll be able to really dig in like I need to xX

Random mode: Snoggy's fave lyrics at the moment - CAN YOU GUESS WHAT SONGS THEY ARE FROM?

1] Virgins sold in quanity, herded by heredity
Red-neck-burn-out-mid-west-mind, who said date rape isnt kind?

2] Well, I hear you went up to Saratoga
And your horse naturally won
Then you flew your Lear jet up to Nova Scotia
To see the total eclipse of the sun
Well, you're where you should be all the time
And when you're not, you're with
Some underworld spy or the wife of a close friend
Wife of a close friend...

[That whole paragraph hits me harddd, and I can't describe just why...]

3] pray unto the splinters, pray unto your fear
pray your life was just a dream
the cut that never heals
pray now baby, pray your life was just a dream
the world in my hands, there's no one left to hear you scream
there's no one left for you

[Yes, I am in angst mode.]

ALRIGHT I'LL SHUT UP NOA AND GO BACK TO LOOKING AT CAKEWRECK x.X

Fun Show: Kitchen Nightmares [Jul. 23rd, 2008|12:28 am]

ms_figg

Man, Chef Gordon Ramsey is really raising hell on this show.  I watched it for the first time tonight on television, then went on the web to watch other episodes.  Man, laughing while being grossed out is too funny.  It's a show where the chef goes to failing restaurants and helps them pull it together.  First he eats there, critiques the food privately, then he goes to check the kitchen the next day.  If I were him, I'd check the kitchens first. lol.

Most of the time he's screaming "What is this "bleep!" I've bloody eaten here!" lol

Anyway, if you have some free time, here's the link:

I'd like to see more damage assessments for hurricanes hitting New York and flooding Manhattan -- something like the 1938 Long Island Express, but aimed a bit more to the west. It's just a matter of time.

Suggestions needed [Jul. 22nd, 2008|03:05 pm]

Calling all fan girls
Calling all fan girls

Today we are working on not one but three related quizzes.

Today’s mood is ambitious!!

First there is the Foreign Affairs quiz. Stories are needed where Hermione & Snape live outside the UK. A prime example would be [info]hypnobarb1’s Starting Over.

Secondly a Vacation Quiz. Stories are needed rather obliviously where Hermione and Snape are on vacation. The first one to jump into my brain is [info]subvers’s Master of Enchantment.

Thirdly and perhaps the most tricky is the Travelogue Quiz. Here we are hunting for stories where Hermione and Snape are on the move. Stories where they are being chased through multiple cities or they are on a journey of some sort that takes them all over the globe. An example would be [info]wonderfulwrites’ brilliant contribution from the last exchange Some Places Speak Distinctly or Have Snape Will Travel.

Do you have any Suggestions? Be sure to indicate which quiz you think a story would fit best in.

Utah Goes to 4-Day Workweek to Save Energy
July 14, 2008
Source: USA Today

In a yearlong experiment aimed at reducing the state's energy costs, Utah is set to become the first state to switch to a four-day workweek for thousands of government employees. Governor Huntsman, who issued the order, says he's making the change to reduce the state's carbon footprint, increase energy efficiency, improve customer service and provide workers more flexibility. The state joins several local governments across the nation that are offering or mandating altered schedules to save money, energy and resources.

Starting August 4, state employees will work 10-hour days, Monday through Thursday, and have Fridays off. The new arrangement will affect about 17,000 out of 24,000 executive-branch employees. Public universities, the state court system, prisons, police forces and other critical services will be exempt.

Huntsman believes the change will help Utah reach its goal of reducing energy use 20% by 2015. The governor’s office estimates that turning off the lights, the heat and the air conditioning on Fridays in 1,000 of 3,000 government buildings will save about $3 million a year. The state also expects to save on gasoline used by official vehicles, though it did not offer an estimate. Employees affected by the order will also save more than $300,000 on gas according to estimates by the Utah Department of Environmental Quality.

Kim Hood, executive director of the Department of Administrative Services touted the environmental benefits: "We feel like we can reduce the CO2 or the ozone by around over 3,000 metric tons, as well as have an impact on our air pollution." It is not known how much of this benefit will be countered by employees using their vehicles for recreation and personal business on their Fridays off, though certainly fewer cars will be stalled in traffic jams headed to and from downtown offices in Salt Lake and other metropolitan areas on those days.

Beyond the energy and financial implications, the four-day work week is also a quality-of-life issue. Huntsman says it is popular among younger employees and that his action will make Utah more competitive in luring talent. At the same time, the governor's office is moving to iron out problems for employees with child-care concerns and those using public transportation that would have difficulty adjusting to a longer workday.

Leslie Scott, executive director of the National Association of State Personnel Directors, says Huntsman's action is a first. "Most states have a four-day work week option for their employees, but Utah is the first to go to a mandatory four-day work week. A good number of the states are encouraging their agencies and managers to offer a four-day work week whenever possible."

The four-day work week is fairly common among city and county governments according to Rex Facer, an assistant professor at Brigham Young University. Facer, who heads a research team studying the four-day work week concept, estimates that about one-sixth of U.S. cities with populations above 25,000 at least provide employees with the option of a four-day work week. With rising energy costs, Facer expects this percentage to increase.

The Knight of Wands card

suggests that proposals or ideas could come out of the blue, and you may need to think fast on your feet or improvise. This could be an opportunity to add spark or zest to your love life or relationship or to follow through on romantic plans. You might feel lost or crazy in love. Things could go too far or too fast, however, especially if one of you is unable to keep up with the changes.
